Have you ever stood at the sunglass counter trying on countless sunglasses only to see huge lenses covering half of your face staring back at you in the mirror? This has been my challenge my whole life. I have even worn children's sunglasses just to have something that fit and didn't fall off my face at the slightest movement.
Here are some suggestions for finding the perfect fit and shape for your petite face:
Measure your temples (the flat part between your ear and outer eye) with a ruler while looking in a mirror.
Petite faces typically fall in the small range: 4.4-5.1 inches (48-54 millimeters)
Check the inside of a pair of prescription glasses that fit well and you will find 3 measurements near the temple inside the arm of the glasses. The measurements will show something like this: 49-17-135 (49=lens; 17=bridge; 135=temple)
Lens width- eye size typically ranges between 40mm and 60mm.
Bridge width-the part that holds the two lenses together. The size of this piece ranges from 14mm to 24mm.
Temple length: The temple is the arms of the sunglasses that hold the sunglasses on your face. The temple length is typically 120mm to 150mm.
Shapes that work well on petite faces are rectangular oval, hexagon, octagon, and 'cat-eye'. Small square and small round lenses work well if they small. Some small rimless glasses work well, also. The plastic or metal pieces that hold the lenses together should be small, not to overpower your face.
No matter which shape you choose, make sure the sunglasses have UV protection! Taking care of your eyes is important at all ages.
My favorite glasses are these Rayban P (Polarized) Jack with gold frames. These sunglasses fit my face perfectly and come in so many stylish frame and lens colors. You will wonder how you ever lived without them!
